  Are these actually any good? The first uploads were 25 fps but with a bad encoding technique used to lower the frame rate. Are these still jumpy and glitchy or where they completely re-encoded? There’s nothing wrong with the 50 fps, in fact that offers smoother playback as there are double the frames.

  Sadly no – there is not one single real PROPER here ar all – this is just RLSBB catching up with a vast number of encodes that were already out days ago and which were already being reflected and posted in the original release thread post.

  The DARKFLiX post is THE release set we are all commenting on having all the stuttering issues – and the so-called JFF proper is an encode FROM that from what I can tell.

  For everyone else:
  1) 50 fps would be the preferred source always if it was put online as 50 fps.
  2) 25 fps is OK if the source encode was fully re-encoded using a direct -r25 command which tells the encoder to evaluate all the 50 fps source frames as it encodes. In fact a huge amount of releases here are 25 when the web source was 50 and they are just fine because they were encoded like this. But…
  3) DF just decimated out half the 50fps frame rate with a command that did no evaluation – and therefore created a mish-mash of frame selection to create the 26fps files that created stuttering to varying degrees in various scenes.

  The DARKFLiX release here is that failed set – so it is in fact the exact opposite of a proper.

  The RAWR set in the original post is almost certainly GOOD (appears to also be 25fps but encoded correctly per 2 above) – but still nobody has posted it on am even half decent server.

  So with respect to the great crew here they have misunderstood because my take is that so far this thread has added nothing but the actual problem itself.

  The source files I found are not RAWR or DARKFLiX and look really good. 50 FPS and a higher overall bitrate than the others. I watched my ep 1 encode last night and was really impressed with the show. I was not thrilled by the concept of the show, but was pleasantly surprised. I think I’m going to watch the entire series.
  I’ll post links to my encodes shortly: 720p x265 aac audio at 128 and one English sub. Cropped out the BBC and black bars as well. I reduced the FPS to 25 so the encoding goes faster.

  Two things. It looks like ep 1 upload has no extention (.mkv) It plays for me, but if necessary any user can open a text editor and add .mkv to the file.

  I had to re-download then re-encode ep 1 as I deleted the other after watching it, so this new encode I did not touch the audio (aac @128 kbps). Eps 2 – 6 are fdk-aac @ 72 Kbps

  It’s generally best to avoid Scene WEBRIP releases due to their lower-quality workflow. 50 fps streams are decimated because Scene standards prioritize canonical framerates over preserving every frame of the source. It is a rule-driven decision, not a technical impossibility. If your goal is technical fidelity and smooth motion, Scene WEBRIPs should only be considered when a WEB-DL is unavailable.

  I saw that BONE release too. I didn’t want to take a chance with it because you can’t tell what source anyone uses. Also, BONE doesn’t normally crop out the BBC logo. That’s a must for me, so I would have needed the 1080p anyways. If only BONE would crop the logo and include the source in the release notes he’d be perfect.

  So, I grabbed ep 1 of the BONE release. It is cropped, bless him, so that is entirely acceptable IMHO.Very smooth playback and everything else is good. BONE always uses an average bitrate of 1000 Kbps so the resulting file size is always huge: 489 MB for Ep 1.
