“Royals at War” examines the strategies used by the royal families of Europe during World War II in the face of increasingly powerful nationalist parties. Connected by family ties, the families witnessed the rise of power of Fascism and Nazism and found themselves, voluntarily or involuntarily, at the centre of Hitler’s political scheming. The two episodes will recount the various families’ ambiguous and difficult dealings with these.
Season 1, Episode 01 –
November 1918, we celebrate the end of a world conflict which left 20 million dead. The designated officials of the butcher’s shop are the monarchs. Empires are crumbling. After the assassination of Tsar Nicolas II, the European monarchies all united to each other by family ties are terrorized by the communist threat. Fascism and Nazism seem to be the solution. Willingly or unintentionally, the European royal houses find themselves at the center of Hitler’s political spectrum.
