It's the climactic conclusion of the 2023 Proms season. On stage, superstar cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason and world-renowned Norwegian soprano Lise Davidsen join the BBC Symphony Orchestra and maestro Marin Alsop for a mix of classical favourites, lesser-known gems and a dash of the new. / / Presented by Katie Derham, with special guests Sandi Toksvig and Danielle de Niese, this first half of the night's celebrations includes music by Verdi, Wagner, Bruch and Mascagni, and there's a world premiere from rising star James B Wilson specially commissioned to commemorate the BBC's centenary last year. The night kicks off with Richard Strauss's swashbuckling Don Juan.
It’s party time at the Royal Albert Hall as the 2023 BBC Proms season wraps up in rousing style at the most exhilarating classical music celebration of the year. Superstar cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason kicks off proceedings in spectacular style with the spine-tingling opening of the main theme of Disney’s much-anticipated upcoming superhero film The Marvels. He also treats us to Coleridge-Taylor’s Deep River, after which world-renowned soprano Lise Davidsen performs an aria by Kalman. The two then combine forces for Villa-Lobos’s sultry Bachianas Brasileiras. The evening culminates in much-loved British classics, including Land of Hope and Glory, Rule Britannia and Jerusalem, all brought to you by the BBC Symphony Orchestra under the baton of maestro Marin Alsop. Katie Derham presents, joined by special guests Sandi Toksvig and Danielle de Niese.
