Season 47, Episode 21 –
The Beechgrove Garden has been on air since 1978 and remains a firm favourite with audiences in Scotland. It consistently outperforms what is being screened by BBC Network in the same slot. At the heart of the series is a 2.5 acre home garden, situated on a cold, inhospitable slope west of Aberdeen, deliberately chosen to reflect Scotland’s harsher climate. Horticultural advice in gardening magazines and on UK network gardening programmes is rarely suitable for most of the UK outside the South East of England. Beechgrove shares with its viewers the weekly challenge to work with the Scottish conditions to produce maximum yield of as many varieties as possible of fruit, flowers and vegetables.

Season 47, Episode 20 –
It’s time to look ahead at Beechgrove Garden with a range of jobs that will deliver results into the next growing season. Ruth and Brian are thinning and replanting the biennials they sowed in June. Ruth is collecting seeds from the flowers that have blossomed this summer and will be sowing them for future colour. She will also be sowing green manure, a crop that enriches the soil to help whatever is sown in 2026. Brian has a masterclass on hedge-trimming, and there is a visit to a garden that was designed for the Chelsea Flower Show but is now taking root in Cumbernauld.

Season 47, Episode 19 –
There is a serious problem at Beechgrove Garden, and Calum and George discuss what it is, the potential impact on the garden and how to deal with it. The problem is club root, a common soil-based disease that attacks the roots of many crops grown at Beechgrove. Currently it is in one area of the garden, so the team looks at ways to limit the disease’s impact and how to stop it spreading. George also checks in on the main vegetable plot, gathering more produce for the kitchen. Planning ahead, Calum sows violas for autumn colour. Season 47, Episode 18 –
The Beechgrove Garden is a television programme broadcast on BBC Two Scotland since 1978, but since 10 April 2007 now broadcast on BBC One Scotland. It is a Scottish equivalent of Gardener’s World. The original plot of land used was the small area of garden attached to the BBC studios in Aberdeen, located in the city’s Beechgrove Terrace. Due to its small size, the programme’s popularity and the fact the garden had been transformed several times over, a new area of ground to the west of Aberdeen was found to feature on the programme. The original presenters on the programme included Dick Gardiner, Jim McColl and George Barron. Barron retired in the 1980s and was replaced by Carole Baxter.[1] As of 2010 McColl and Baxter still present the show, joined by Carolyn Spray and Lesley Watson. Other regular contributors include George Anderson, and BBC Scotland weather presenters Heather Reid, Gail McGrane and Peter Sloss, who present forecasts on the show.
