How do you protect Britain’s busiest mountain when more than 600,000 people visit each year? Charlotte Smith and Joe Crowley head to Yr Wyddfa, Wales’s highest peak, to meet the people caring for its landscape and keeping visitors on the move. Joe joins volunteers tackling litter in some of the mountain’s hardest-to-reach gullies before discovering work to protect rare alpine plants and the elusive Snowdon beetle, found nowhere else in the UK. Meanwhile, Charlotte goes behind the scenes at Wales’s highest cafe to find out what it takes to keep visitors fed and watered at the summit. Season 38, Episode 38 – “Bayeux Tapestry”
With the Bayeux Tapestry being displayed in Britain for the first time in almost a thousand years, Joe Crowley and Tom Heap are in East Sussex to discover what traces of this extraordinary story can still be found in the landscape today. Joe explores how the boats that carried the Norman army are still being built in East Sussex using traditional methods and investigates the region’s flourishing vineyards, a feature of the landscape at the time of the conquest. Tom meets a farmer rearing descendants of the native long-horned red cattle depicted in the tapestry and walks the battlefield from both Norman and Saxon perspectives, examining how the terrain shaped the course of the conflict.

John visits a farm in the south of the county that is sticking with a crop dependent on wet weather, despite a failed harvest. In the north east of the county, Anita discovers how one family has turned to a heritage grain that could help secure its future. Adam Henson sees how the hot weather has affected his livestock, and the Countryfile Ramble for BBC Children in Need is back this autumn! To kick things off, John is joined by Matt Baker and Pudsey to introduce the first of a group of children supported by projects funded by the charity.

Season 38, Episode 34 – “Adams Young Farmers-Yorkshire Dales”
Adam Henson visits young farmers navigating the challenges and rewards of producing our food. This week, he’s near Malham in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park meeting 34-year-old cattle and sheep farmer Frank Carr. Whilst checking on the newly born lambs, Frank explains to Adam that the landscape is as unforgiving as it is beautiful, and its unpredictable conditions can have a significant impact on his flock, especially during the winter months. Adam hears how since going into partnership with his dad, Frank has significantly expanded the cattle herd and taken on a large amount of debt. For the business to work, Frank’s plan is to produce high-quality beef and sell it at a premium. Adam also looks back through the Countryfile archives, revisiting some of the inspirational farmers we have met from across the UK
