Season 9, Episode 27 – "Trafford"
Hannah and Christie are a couple whose boxy 42-square-metre garden doesn’t reflect their fun-loving lifestyle. Chris is a DJ, and Hannah plays the sax, and the feel of a music festival would be a great theme for the team to include. Charlie and Lee get their raving shoes on to win the couple over. The winning design may have Ibiza vibes, but the team have proper wet, north western weather to tackle on the build. It may be pouring, but the slick paving and elegant pergola definitely have a holiday feel. The focus is a central water feature, with the disco put into the garden with mirrorball-inspired tiling. Pretty pastel-coloured perennials bring the whole garden to life. Hannah and Chris are so inspired, it's not long before the sax is broken out for an impromptu jam session in their new garden.

Lee’s design is focused on creating an entertainment space in the middle of the garden, with a central patio featuring bespoke screen and L-shaped benches. Lee adds a homemade tandoor for the family to cook together and a food prep area and veg growing beds. Flo mucks in with a planting area to draw attention from the giant walls and herb garden by the back door.

Charlie and Chris battle it out. Translating his design to the garden with its big perimeter walls stretches the £6,000 budget to the limit. The boys crack on with the landscaping, and Chris’s cracked paving patio goes down quick. A tougher proposition is the bespoke seating area at the back, with its dry stone wall façade. While Chris drives the main garden build, Charlie gets to tackle the dog leg, which Chris has designed to be a fun kids zone with a water play area and wooden musical instruments. With metres of wildflower turf going down and native trees adding to the natural feel of the garden.

This time, it's Lee’s design that wins, but his new garden must include Sonia’s hexagonal hut, also known as the Gin Palace and her hot tub. Lee decides to complement them with another hexagonal water feature and a pergola that covers the hot tub! The real stars are the plants, which are added to appeal to Sonia’s sense of smell and touch.
