In Scotland, the Jacobite Steam Train, better known as the Hogwarts Express, travels across the Scottish Highlands, unlocking the fascinating history of the Jacobite Rebellion. In Wales, the Mountain Spirit traverses glorious coastlines and ancient oak woodlands on the Ffestiniog Railway, through the mountainous Snowdonia National Park. And in England, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway travels from Whitby to Pickering, transporting us back in time to the golden age of steam train travel, and the West Somerset Railway scales rolling hills, to tell the story if its great engineer, Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
Season 1, Episode 01 –
The first episode tracks the Jacobite Railway, which runs through the Scottish Highlands from Fort William to Mallaig. The programme visits the site of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s hideout, and explores the history of the Jacobite Rebellion.
