Season 5, Episode 30 – “Tram Sign”
Nigel Havers welcomes sellers of collectibles and curiosities to the Bidding Room’s home in Edinburgh, where they ply their wares to five dealers.

First through the doors is farmer Phillip from Cheshire with his son Thomas. Thomas has got an industrial-sized butter churn up for grabs, and dad Phillip has come along to school the dealers in the art of butter making. Can Thomas and Phillip butter up the dealers enough to ensure they churn out some big bids?

Next in and local to Edinburgh HQ is Tanya and her entourage of chihuahua dogs. They’re hoping a curious object will help the dealers to focus. Her 1950s spectacle binoculars were found in a charity shop, but she’ll need the dealers to see eye to eye with Simon’s expert valuation if she wants to make enough money for her beloved pooches’ doggy treats.

Third to arrive in the room is Niall, with a linen tram blind from Glasgow’s famous Botanic Gardens. Though Glasgow’s trams are long gone, the sign remains. How far will the dealers go to make the sign their own?

Amelia is next, and she’s brought along an antique with medical credentials. Inherited from her great-grandfather, a pioneering gynaecologist, the patient’s bed table with original lamp stand impresses the dealers, but will they show their bedside manners and bid high enough to claim the antique table?

Finally, it’s Brandon and Julie from Arizona, hoping the dealers will play ball for their croquet set and cricket stumps. Bought at auction, the items are just too nice to use for their family games of ‘combat croquet’, so they want to sell them on and use the money to celebrate Julie’s birthday.

Season 5, Episode 29 – “Football Table”
Nigel Havers welcomes sellers of collectibles and curiosities to the Bidding Room’s home in Edinburgh, where they ply their wares to five dealers.

The first hopeful seller is Mike, with a vintage poster from 1920s Paris. An avid buyer and collector of vintage artworks, Mike has a house bursting with iconography and not enough room to display it all. This wartime poster of actress and dancer Colette Andris should capture the imagination of the dealers, but will their bids be high enough to see Mike dancing all the way to the bank?

Next in is Joe, with his team of boys, Fabio and Gino. They’ve brought a late 20th-century football table that has been in Joe’s house longer than his children, but the time has come to move it on. They’re hoping for a fair match and some high bids in the room before the final whistle. But which of the dealers will be the star player today?

Third into Edinburgh HQ are Kate and Dan, with an item that’s more than what it seems. The 1980s globe conceals a bar within, so they’re hoping the dealers will be serving up some healthy bids to help fund a family holiday.

Finally, it’s Peter, with a collection of ephemera he bought in a lot at auction. The deeds box contains some fascinating memories of one woman, allowing the dealers to delve into some important social history. And Peter has some tricks up his sleeve to try to sell his collection for the best possible price.

First through the doors is chef Laura with a 1950s étagère, a tiered table for display. It has been used to present Laura’s beautiful, handcrafted cakes and pastries in her own café, but with a refit on the cards, there’s no longer a need for it. Will the dealers come up with sweet enough bids to give Laura her just desserts?

Next in is Richard with a pendant light he found at a flea market and haggled hard for to buy at a good price. The German-designed-and-made light with textured glass lampshades impresses the dealers, but can Richard turn up the bids to pocket a good profit?

Arriving at Edinburgh HQ next is retired calligrapher Davina. She was gifted some silver napkin holders found in a charity shop in Canada by a friend, but she’s ready to move them on. The hallmarked pieces should appeal to the room’s newest dealer and precious metal buyer, Craig, but he could have competition on his hands from his fellow buyers.

Fourth into the room is Clinton with a Victorian spinning wheel. He’s planning to stretch out the dealers’ bids and convert them into hard cash for charity.

Finally, it’s Pamela with a retro piece that should work the dealers into a sweat. Her exercise bike was bought, with the very best of intentions, at a car boot sale three years ago, but Pamela hasn’t given it much of a workout. She’s hoping the dealers are feeling fit and ready to offer up some healthy bids for the bike.

Nigel Havers welcomes sellers of collectibles and curiosities to the Bidding Room’s home in Edinburgh, where they ply their wares to five dealers.

First through the doors is children’s entertainer Stuart, with some apparatus to delight the dealers. His three pairs of stilts have been part of his act for the past 15 years, but the time has come for Stuart to move them on. With hopes of raising money for his local children’s hospice, he knows any bids from the dealers will need to get up to the right level if they want to make the stilts their own.

Next in is Jana, hoping for a glass-half-full attitude from the dealers. Her art deco perfume bottles were inherited from an aunt who lived to be 103. Jana suspects perfume wasn’t the only thing her aunt kept in her perfume bottles, but can any of the dealers offer Jana the elixir of a good deal?

Third to arrive at Edinburgh HQ is Sharon from Norwich. A set of Chinese locks, collected on Sharon’s spells abroad, are ready to find a new home – if any of the dealers can find the winning combination to unlock a deal.

Willie is next with a fun toy that should make the dealers go ‘yee-ha!’. The cowboy-themed ranch phone toy was found at a car boot sale, but Willie is under strict instructions to start clearing out some of his collection of curios. Hoping to achieve more than Simon’s valuation, will Willie face a stand-off with the dealers?

Finally, it’s Janet, who recently went out in search of a caravan for her family’s holiday home but came back the new owner of a boat. Renovations are underway, so Janet has brought along a trio of original nautical items from the ship for the dealers to inspect – will getting a deal in be plain sailing for Janet?

Nigel Havers welcomes sellers of collectibles and curiosities to the Bidding Room’s home in Edinburgh, where they ply their wares to five dealers.

First through the doors is budding dealer Glen. He bought a houseful of items and is selling off the items one by one. He has chosen a 1950s meat press to bring along to the room. With their love of ‘kitchenalia’, Jon and Jacqui should be interested, but can Glen pick up some tips from the other dealers to get the best price for his press?

Next in is Julie, with a limited-edition bottle of whisky she won in a competition. Expert Simon Bower is on hand to confirm Julie’s hopes of a high valuation, but will the dealers want to savour the 50-year-old whisky enough to pay the right price for it?

Third to arrive at Edinburgh HQ is Jack, hoping to paint a smile on the dealers’ faces with a pair of retro fairground signs. The happy clown faces are ready for a new home, but will the astute dealers go big to top Simon’s valuation?

Liz is in next with something she hopes will carry a hefty profit. Selling a 1930s vanity case on behalf of her mum, the charity shop find contains some silver treasures. The vanity case could sit pretty amongst the dealers, with a sizeable return in prospect on the £7 purchase price.

Finally, hoping to play his cards right in the room, is Michael. His 19th-century Chinese card box was gifted to him by his grandmother when he was a child, but it’s not being used to its full potential. The dealers will need to come up with some ace bids if they want to be the box’s new owner.

The first hopeful seller is Andrew, with a pair of paintings imprinted with nostalgia. The depictions of drunken monks hung on his uncle’s wall for years, and Andrew couldn’t see them sent to the skip. Which of the dealers will take a measure of the paintings?

Next in is Susan, who’s posted a ‘for sale’ sign on her miniature property. Despite pouring her time and energy into curating a full collection of fixtures and fittings within her doll’s house, Susan wants to move it out of her spare bedroom and raise funds for her new passion in silversmithing. Will any of the dealers make an offer over and above Simon’s valuation?

Third to arrive at Edinburgh HQ is Paul with a sign that should raise a smile amongst the dealers – as long as they like clowns! The supersized clown face has served its purpose in Paul’s antique’s centre, and he’s hoping to move it on, but will the dealers roll up with any bids?

Jane is in next with an important piece of design history she hopes the dealers will be trumpeting for. The limited-edition advertising tool designed by Eduardo Paolozzi has been stuck in a cupboard for years, while one of the same designs is displayed in the V&A. Its status as a museum-worthy piece should appeal to astute buyers, but will any of the dealers offer Jane the right money to match or better Simon’s jumbo valuation?

Finally into the room today is Alec with a 1950s Tri-ang puff puff train, which brings him fond memories of his childhood. He’s ready to let it go and raise some funds for an upcoming trip to New York. A mystery bidder could set him on the right tracks.
